Study in Dubai for Indian students: fees, universities and the student visa
Mansoor Ameen · Founder & Consultant · 14 min read · Updated November 2026

Short answer
A one-year master’s in Dubai costs an Indian student about ₹34 to 70 lakh with living costs; our three worked budgets come to ₹38.4, ₹48 and ₹69.4 lakh. Your university sponsors a one-year renewable student visa, and degrees from properly approved branch campuses are recognised in India under the UGC’s 2025 rules.
India sends more students to Dubai’s private universities than any other country. In 2024-25, Indians were 43% of the international students at Dubai’s private universities, according to KHDA, the regulator. Most study at branch campuses of British, Australian and Indian universities, about four hours’ flight from Chennai.
Dubai is often sold as the cheap option. It can be, but fees vary widely, from about AED 66,000 for a one-year MBA to more than AED 180,000 for a computing master’s, and a room in a student residence adds AED 2,150 to 7,500 a month. This guide sets out the published fees, the student visa, what the degree is worth in India and what a year costs, from university and UAE government pages checked on 5 November 2026. Rupee figures use AED 1 ≈ ₹26; the official reference rate was ₹25.70 that day, so this leaves a small margin.
How much does it cost to study in Dubai for Indian students?
About ₹34 to 70 lakh for a one-year master’s, including living costs, the student visa and health insurance, depending mostly on the university. These three worked budgets use each university’s published fee and visa package:
| University and course | Tuition | Living for 12 months | Total in rupees |
|---|---|---|---|
| Middlesex University Dubai, MSc Data Science and AI | AED 76,491 | AED 65,520 (shared room) | About ₹38.4 lakh |
| Heriot-Watt University Dubai, MSc Data Science | AED 113,685 | AED 65,520 (shared room) | About ₹48 lakh |
| University of Birmingham Dubai, MSc Computer Science (for non-computing graduates) | AED 180,617 (September 2027) | AED 82,320 (single room) | About ₹69.4 lakh |
The living figures start from the University of Birmingham Dubai’s monthly estimate of AED 6,860, about ₹1.8 lakh, which assumes a single room at AED 4,600; the Birmingham budget uses it as it stands. For Middlesex and Heriot-Watt we swap that room for a shared one at AED 3,200, the price Heriot-Watt lists for The Myriad in Dubai International Academic City, and keep Birmingham’s AED 2,260 for food, recreation, phone and transport: AED 5,460 a month. Each total adds the university’s visa and insurance package, plus Heriot-Watt’s AED 525 application fee. Refundable deposits of AED 2,500 to 3,000 are not counted.
The lowest fees bring the total down: Amity’s one-year MBA at AED 69,300 with VAT, a triple room at AED 2,200 and a visa package like the others’ come to about ₹34 lakh, the bottom of that range. Our cost of studying abroad guide compares Dubai with the UK, Ireland, Germany, Canada, Australia and the USA.
What are the fees at Dubai universities for Indian students?
Usually AED 66,000 to 115,000 for a master’s or MBA, about ₹17 to 30 lakh (most take one year; UOWD’s MBA runs two), and AED 55,000 to 82,000 a year for a bachelor’s at most campuses. Birmingham Dubai costs about twice as much. These are the fees published on 5 November 2026:
| University | Master’s or MBA | Bachelor’s, a year |
|---|---|---|
| Amity University Dubai | MBA, 1 year: AED 66,000 plus 5% VAT | Charged per credit |
| Middlesex University Dubai | MSc Data Science and AI: AED 76,491; MBA: AED 84,872 | AED 64,557 |
| Curtin University Dubai | Master of Artificial Intelligence, 12 months: AED 84,000 | AED 60,900 (IT, business) |
| Murdoch University Dubai | MBA: AED 89,000 (2027) | AED 61,160 (2027) |
| University of Wollongong in Dubai | MBA, 24 months: 12 subjects at AED 9,597.26 each, about AED 115,167 in total | AED 63,449 (computer science) |
| Heriot-Watt University Dubai | MSc Data Science or AI: AED 113,685 | AED 82,264 (computer science) |
| University of Birmingham Dubai | MSc Computer Science: AED 180,617 (September 2027) | AED 162,203 (September 2027) |
Most published fees include 5% VAT; Amity and BITS Pilani add it. Most campuses charge a small application fee, such as Heriot-Watt’s AED 525, and a deposit when you accept: Birmingham asks AED 5,000, Middlesex AED 3,000 and Curtin a AED 3,500 registration fee. Visa-sponsored students at Heriot-Watt pay the year in full or in four instalments, and Amity asks international students for the annual fee in one payment.
Which is the cheapest university in Dubai for Indian students?
Among the campuses we checked, the Indian ones: Manipal Academy of Higher Education charges AED 57,750 a year for a BTech in computer science and AED 42,525 a year for a two-year MSc in IT; BITS Pilani Dubai charges AED 27,750 a semester for a BE and AED 16,800 a semester for an ME or MBA, plus VAT; and Amity’s MBA is the lowest fee in the table above. IIM Ahmedabad, the exception, opened a Dubai campus in 2025-26, with a one-year MBA at US$80,000, about ₹76.4 lakh, for applicants aged 25 or more with at least four years of work experience.
Which universities in Dubai are good for Indian students?
Dubai has 41 private higher education institutions, 37 of them international campuses, teaching 42,026 students in 2024-25. The ones Indian students choose most fall into three groups:
- British branch campuses: Heriot-Watt, Middlesex and Birmingham. Birmingham says its Dubai graduates receive the same University of Birmingham degree as UK-based students.
- Australian branch campuses: Wollongong, Curtin and Murdoch. UOWD says its degrees are accredited in the UAE and quality assured by the University of Wollongong, which is registered with Australia’s regulator, TEQSA.
- Indian campuses: Manipal, BITS Pilani and Amity, plus IIM Ahmedabad for experienced managers. Manipal says its offshore campus is approved by the Government of India and UGC.
Before you apply anywhere, check two things. First, that the campus and your programme are licensed and accredited in the UAE; Middlesex, for example, lists its licence and programme accreditation on its own page. Second, whose name will be on your degree certificate: the parent university’s, or the Dubai campus’s. Ask the admissions office in writing.
Is a Dubai degree valid in India?
Usually yes, if the campus is properly approved. Under the UGC’s 2025 regulations on foreign qualifications, notified on 4 April 2025, a degree from the offshore campus of a foreign university is recognised for an equivalence certificate if the campus is approved in both the UAE and the university’s home country, and the programme meets accreditation rules in both. A degree awarded through a franchise arrangement, where another institution awards the degree, is not; the UGC’s FAQ says franchise degrees are not eligible for equivalence.
Degrees from the Dubai campuses of Indian deemed universities, such as Manipal and BITS Pilani, are degrees of those Indian universities. The UGC rules do not cover medicine, pharmacy, nursing, law or architecture, which have their own regulators. If you need a degree for a government job or further study in India, keep the campus’s accreditation letter. Our guide to whether a UK master’s is valid in India explains the equivalence process in detail.
What are the requirements to study in Dubai from India?
A bachelor’s degree, usually with 55% or more, proof of English and attested certificates. By campus:
- Master’s: usually a 2.2 or above. Heriot-Watt asks for 55% or a CGPA of 5.5 out of 10, or 53% from leading Indian universities; UOWD lists 40% for India. Birmingham asks for a 2.2 in a subject other than computing for its MSc in Computer Science, a conversion course.
- Bachelor’s: Heriot-Watt asks for 65% in Class 12 with 60% in mathematics for computer science, and BITS Pilani Dubai 60% overall and 60% in physics, chemistry and mathematics for its BE.
- English: many campuses accept your Class 12 English mark instead of IELTS. Heriot-Watt takes 65% from CBSE or CISCE and 70% from approved state boards; otherwise IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 is typical.
The step most Indian students underestimate is attestation. Your certificates must be certified by your university or board and a notary, then attested by the Ministry of External Affairs and the UAE Embassy in India, and finally by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. You then apply for an equivalency certificate from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education. Birmingham and Heriot-Watt give you up to one semester to get it, but start attestation as soon as you apply.
What are the Dubai student visa requirements for Indian students?
An offer from a licensed university, your first fees paid and a passport valid for six months. Your university sponsors the visa: a student can live in the UAE under the sponsorship of the accredited university or a parent who is a UAE resident, and the university applies on your behalf once you have accepted your offer and paid. The visa is issued for one year at a time and renewed each year of your course. The steps are:
- The university applies for an entry permit, valid for 60 days, using your passport, photo and admission letter.
- You fly to Dubai and send the university your entry stamp.
- You take a medical test, a blood test and chest x-ray, if you are 18 or over.
- You give fingerprints for your Emirates ID.
- The residence visa is issued electronically, and your Emirates ID follows.
Birmingham says the whole process takes four to five weeks after you arrive.
How much is the Dubai student visa fee?
About AED 4,000 to 8,200, or ₹1.1 to 2.1 lakh, plus a refundable deposit. Government fees are bundled into each university’s visa package, which also includes health insurance:
| University | Visa package | Refundable deposit |
|---|---|---|
| Heriot-Watt | AED 3,315, plus AED 1,469 insurance if you do not arrange your own | AED 3,000 |
| Middlesex | AED 5,555, including insurance | AED 2,500 |
| Birmingham | AED 4,068, including insurance | AED 3,000 |
| UOWD | AED 8,237, with insurance and a partly refundable AED 2,500 charge | Included |
Health insurance is compulsory: Birmingham says DHA-compliant medical insurance is compulsory for all students, and its cover starts only once the visa is issued, so take travel insurance for your first month or two. When your course ends, the university cancels the visa, and you need a new sponsor, usually an employer, to stay.
Can Indian students work part time in Dubai?
Yes, with a permit your employer applies for. The UAE labour ministry lets registered employers train or employ students aged 15 and over; the employer applies, the permit lasts three months and needs no bank guarantee. MoHRE’s page sets no weekly hours limit, so check your university’s rules and get its approval before you start.
The UAE charges no income tax on individuals, but adds 5% VAT to most goods and services.
How much does it cost to live in Dubai as a student?
About AED 4,400 to 6,900 a month, or ₹1.1 to 1.8 lakh, depending mainly on your room; our budgets use AED 5,460 with a shared room and AED 6,860 with a single. Student residences listed by the universities, most with a bus to campus, show these monthly prices:
| Room type | AED a month | About in rupees |
|---|---|---|
| Shared room (triple or twin) | 2,150 to 3,750 | ₹56,000 to ₹98,000 |
| Single room | 3,800 to 5,050 | ₹99,000 to ₹1.3 lakh |
| Studio | 5,400 to 7,500 | ₹1.4 to 2 lakh |
Ranges are from the lists published by UOWD and Heriot-Watt, and many include utilities. On top of rent, Birmingham allows AED 1,000 a month for groceries, AED 600 for recreation and entertainment, AED 160 for a phone plan and AED 500 for taxis; with a student nol card, the RTA gives 50% off all public transport. Prices are rising: Dubai’s inflation was 5.03% in September 2026, with food up about 8%.
Is Dubai safe for Indian students in 2026?
Check the live advisory before you commit. The UAE is home to about 4.3 million Indians, but 2026 has brought regional risk. In March, during the US-Iran conflict, flights were suspended as airspace closed, and the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi issued an advisory, as Business Today reported. In October, The National reported that fighting had paused but that there were concerns it could resume. Before you pay a deposit or book a flight, read the embassy’s latest advisory and ask the university in writing what happens to your fees, classes and visa if flights are suspended or teaching moves online.
What happens after you graduate in Dubai?
There is no post-study work visa like the UK Graduate visa or Ireland’s Stamp 1G. To stay, you need a job with an employer who sponsors an employment visa. Two other routes exist:
- Golden Visa: graduates of UAE universities rated Category A by the Ministry of Education can apply with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 out of 4, or 3.8 at Category B universities, within two years of graduating.
- Job-seeker visit visa: Visit Dubai describes a visa that lets graduates stay 60, 90 or 120 days without a sponsor to look for work.
UAE residence stays tied to employment, investment or the Golden Visa, so Dubai is not a route to permanent residence.
Are there scholarships for a master’s in Dubai for Indian students?
Yes, though most are partial fee discounts rather than full scholarships:
- Heriot-Watt: a 10% or 15% postgraduate merit scholarship for Indian graduates with a CGPA of 7 or 7.5 out of 10, or 70% or 75%.
- Murdoch: academic merit awards of 15% to 40% of tuition, and 20% for its MBA.
- RIT Dubai: new international students may be eligible for 40% off first-year tuition, a Global Tigers scholarship limited to 10 places a year.
- BITS Pilani Dubai: 20% off the first semester of an ME or MBA for 75% or more; for a BE, 10% to 40% off first-year tuition for 70% to 95% or more in Class 12, 50% for board toppers, and up to 75% on BITSAT scores.
Most campuses decide scholarships with the offer, and many have early acceptance discounts with fixed deadlines, so apply early.
When are the intakes in Dubai?
Mainly September and January, and some programmes also start in April or May. Admissions are rolling, so the limit is usually the time it takes to attest your documents and get the visa. Apply three to four months before the intake: for September 2027, BITS Pilani Dubai opens applications on 15 February 2027, and Heriot-Watt’s next intake is January 2027.
Is Dubai good for Indian students?
For a one-year master’s or MBA close to home, with a British, Australian or Indian degree, Dubai suits students who plan to work in the Gulf or return to India. Its weak points are master’s tuition that runs from about ₹20 lakh to ₹47 lakh at the foreign campuses, no post-study work visa, and residence that stays tied to an employer. The choice usually turns on the campus and who awards the degree. Our best country to study abroad guide sets Dubai beside the other main destinations, and our Dubai page covers how we help Chennai students apply.
Dubai study checklist
- Campus and programme licensed and accredited in the UAE, and the awarding university confirmed in writing.
- Budget set with a published room price, not just tuition.
- Degree certificates attested by the MEA, the UAE Embassy and, in the UAE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Offer accepted and first fees paid, so the university can apply for your entry permit.
- Travel insurance for the first weeks, until university cover starts.
- Medical test and Emirates ID within your first weeks in Dubai.
- MoHESR equivalency certificate within your first semester.
